Closing Date Set for Dominick's Stores

The grocery stores are scheduled to close before the end of the year, according to a company memo.

The countdown is on for Northfield's Dominick’s store. 

All unsold stores will close “on or about” Dec. 28, employees were told in a memo published byCrain’s Chicago Business.

“The closures are expected to be permanent,” according to the memo, which says the closing date will also be Dominick’s employees’ last day on the job.

Safeway, the chain’s parent company, announced earlier this month plans to close all 72 stores in the Chicago market. 

Four of those stores have been purchased by New Albertsons, which owns the Jewel-Osco chain, the Chicago Tribune reported. The other 68 stores remain unsold, according to Crain’s.
