Recycling comes in many forms... Glencoe Friends of the Green Bay Trail to the Rescue…

Recyling comes in many forms....including with Native Plants. Northerly Island Plants Rescue makes some beautiful additions to the Green Bay Trail.

I really didn’t’ think I would go from Glencoe to Northerly Island to dig up some native plants…. The Chicago Park District, Open Lands, Chicago Region Audubon and the Field Museum sponsored the Native Plant Rescue in advance of the upcoming major wetland reconstruction.  Ah, but the opportunity to add Little Blue Stem and New England Asters to the Green Bay Trail in Glencoe was just too tempting…so off I went, shovel and all.

The Green Corps, City of Chicago's green job training program, were helping out and when they saw all the plants that I dug, they questioned me about the type of vehicle I had.  Not to fear, I assured them they would all fit, just fit.

What are great idea…with the teardowns revving up again in the North Shore, we might think about recycling some of the native plants in these yards.  It sure burying them under a new basement.
