Opening Reception: Holly Farrell, John Musgrove and Matthew Schofield: 3 Painters

ZIA|Gallery welcomes three accomplished painters Holly Farrell, Matthew Schofield and John Musgrove.

Toronto-based artist Holly Farrell sees her work as a combination of Still Life and Portraiture.  Through her handling of paint, Farrell builds life into representations of inanimate objects from Barbie to boots.  Recently, one of the Mugs (Fire King) Series was purchased by BMO for their permanent collection.  Another group in the series can be seen at ZIA.
Matthew Schofield, also from Toronto, uses haphazard images in old snapshots and his painterly skills to bring attention to subjects otherwise ignored. The diminutive scale of his paintings adds to their raised importance.  This year Schofield was a finalist in the prestigious BP Portrait Prize in the UK and is currently a finalist for the Kingston Prize for Portraiture in Canada.
To round out this trio of painters, San Franciscan John Musgrove combines small panel paintings to form complete scenes of trees, sky or city streets.  He says of his work, "I like that each painting has a time lapse quality.  I've tried to capture the dynamic sense of change that's inherent in those subjects."  All three artists show the ongoing relevance and variation of painting when supported by talent, conviction and personal interpretation.
As always, the public is invited to meet the artists and enjoy an evening of art and hors d’oeuvres.
