Monday Night at the Movies: "The Interrupters"

One of the year’s best documentaries, The Interrupters is an inspiring chronicle of three “interrupters,” who work on the streets of Chicago to try to stop violent confrontations before they begin.   Filmmaker Steve James (Hoop Dreams) follows the three who work for an innovative organization, CeaseFire, which believes that the spread of violence mimics the spread of infectious diseases, and so the treatment should be similar: go after the most infected, and stop the infection at its source.  The Interrupters is “…an eye-opening document that leaves you feeling hopeful because such people as Ameena, Cobe and Eddie exist.”  --  Robin Clifford, Reeling Reviews.

122 minutes.  Not rated.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Glencoe Public Library, all films in this series are screened at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm at the Woman’s Library Club, 325 Tudor Court.
