Monday Night at the Movies: Jiro Dreams of Sushi

You might not expect to find a Michelin three-star restaurant in Tokyo subway station.  However, as David Gelb’s documentary, Jiro Dreams of Sushi explains, working in that unlikely location is the man who many consider the world’s greatest sushi chef.  We’re taken into the world of the enigmatic shokunin (master), his restaurant where no detail is left unexamined and to the world-famous Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo where we meet the vendors who supply Sukiyabashi Jiro (the restaurant).  “By the time this graceful film is over you understand why Japan has declared the bald, bespectacled Jiro a national treasure. Even if you've never tasted sushi, the man's singleness of purpose will inspire you.” – Colin Covert, Minneapolis Star Tribune. 81 minutes.  Rated PG.

The film will be shown at the Woman's Library Club, 325 Tudor Ct., at 1:00 and 7:00 p.m.
