The number of 25-34 year olds living in Winnetka, Glencoe and Kenilworth has decreased significantly in the past decade, according to an article in the New York Times, which singled out the three Chicago suburbs as an example of a nation-wide trend.

The article didn’t say what the exact change was between 2000 and 2011, but said it was comparable to suburbs outside Washington, D.C. where that age group’s representation had fallen between 19 and 34 percent.

The phenomenon of suburban young adults leaving for the city and then returning when they have children of their own is slowing, the article says.
