Winnetka Water is Safe to Drink

Earlier this week, Deerfield experienced water contamination. But don't worry Winnetka — the water in the Village is not affected.

On Monday and Tuesday, residents in the Village of Deerfield were warned to boil any water they used due to a contamination of the supply. The Village's water supply was contaminated by Fecal Coliform, a bacteria which indicates the water may have come in contact with animal or human waste.

The boil order was lifted Wednesday afternoon but the order, understandably, left many residents around the North Shore nervous.

But don't worry, Winnetka residents. The water in the Village continues to completely safe and was not affected at all by Deerfield's scare.

"We sample the water continuously, daily," said Richard Ciesla, Winnetka Assistant Director of Water and Electric. "We filter our own water here in Winnetka."
