West Nile Virus Found in Winnetka

The first West Nile virus-positive mosquitoes have been found in Winnetka.

The first West Nile virus-positive mosquitoes have been found in Winnetka this year. The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District (NSMAD) said that mosquitoes were collected from a NSMAD trap on July 17, according to the Village website.

Residents can protect themselves by limiting outdoor activity around dawn and dusk, covering exposed skin with loose-fitting, light-colored clothing and wearing bug repellent. The Village is also asking residents to check around their homes and eliminate any potential mosquito breeding sources — in particular, any items that can hold water.
