West Nile Virus Found in Glencoe

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District reminds residents that if it can hold water, it can breed mosquitoes.

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District (NSMAD) has found the first West Nile Virus positive mosquito pool in Glencoe.

The mosquitos initially tested negative in the lab on August 12. They were then sent to the Illinois Natural History Survey for additional testing, where they were later tested positive.

The NSMAD recommends that residents protect themselves around dawn and dusk by covering exposed skin with loose fitting, light-colored clothing and always wearing repellent. Remember — if it can hold water, it can breed mosquitoes.
