General Weather Discussion for the Week Ahead

A quiet pattern continues across the center of the country due to a sprawling area of high pressure, which is currently located across Indiana and Ohio. A dry airmass continues on the west side with mild temperatures and gusty winds developing. Temperatures will continue to warm in our area with highs approaching 80 in the next three or four days. This is some 13 degrees above normal for this time of year.

Any rain will stay west of the Mississippi River through Monday with possibly just a few high clouds in our area. Since the high pressure system is moving so slowly to the east, any rain will move up across Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota and up into Wisconsin with rain moving from southwest to northeast. We can expect dry conditions across northern Illinois through at least next Tuesday.

By the middle or end of next week, a frontal boundary will slowly approach and this will bring our next chance of rain. Rain may cover 60 to 70 percent of the area by next Wednesday or Thursday with a few t-storms possible. Cooler air behind the front for a few days will knock temperatures down closer to average with the coldest temperatures staying to our north.

In summary, nearly perfect weather will continue for the next several days with potentially a more active pattern returning by the middle or end of next week. Time to head to farmers' market!

Your Weekly Weather Fact: Average snow during the month of October: 0.30 inches. No measurable snow is forecast this month for our area. T
