The same general pattern will continue through the first week of January with perhaps some colder air making an appearance just in time for 2012 and lasting for a few days.

The Week In Preview

Weekend Pattern- Mild weather during the first half of the weekend will transition to much colder temperatures and some light precipitation during the second half of the weekend with no snow accumulation expected. A strong cold front moves through early Sunday morning and this will likely bring in a colder airmass for the start of 2012.

Early to Midweek Pattern- A northwest flow pattern will bring several quiet days as high pressure settles into the region. It will be rather cold through Wednesday with temperatures averaging a little below normal during this time. Any significant precipitation will stay well northwest and northeast of our region. Temperatures will likely warm up again Thursday and Friday with above normal temperatures returning for a brief period of time.

Late Week Pattern- A strong cold front will plow through the area by late Friday or Saturday bringing in another cold airmass. Although there may be a few flurries to accompany the cold air, the best chance of accumulating snow will stay to our east, probably closer to the East Coast.

Temperatures: Temperatures will be on a roller coaster ride during this time with highs not far from 50 on Saturday, but quickly cooling down into the 30s on the first day of the year. Highs in the 20s are likely on Monday and Tuesday with a nice warm up back into the 40s by the middle and end of the week. Much colder air returns with highs possibly struggling to get out of the 20s by Jan. 8.
