Your Week Ahead: Dec. 16 to Dec. 23

One significant storm system will influence our weather in the beginning of next week with a decent chance of precipitation, which will mainly be in the form of rain on Monday with a few snow showers possibly on Tuesday. As the flow turns more west and northwest by the middle and end of next week, there may be a few snow flurries or snow showers which may coat the ground as we get closer to the Christmas.

The Week In Preview

Weekend Pattern - Much of the weekend looks quiet with high pressure in control. A weak disturbance may bring a few passing flurries in our vicinity on Saturday, however, with a large amount of dry air in place, the risk of any accumulation is remote. Temperatures also look warmer during the second half of the weekend.

Early to Midweek Pattern - A potent storm developing by the beginning of next week looks like it will track near our region bringing some rain to the area on Monday. With a lack of cold air in place, there may be a few snow flurries or snow showers on the backside of the storm Tuesday or Wednesday. It is important to note though that the track of this storm is not set in stone and additional changes may influence the storm track. The storm may also slow down.

Late Week Pattern - Cold air filters back into the area with perhaps a few flurries or light snow showers during this time. There are signs that temperatures may warm up again toward the last week of the month.

Temperatures - It will be rather cold over the next few days; however, temperatures will average close to normal today and tomorrow with a warm-up expected on Sunday. Warmer temperatures are looking likely for the beginning of next week with highs in the 40s and lows in the mid 30s. Colder air returns though as early as Tuesday and may persist through Friday at least with highs back in the low to mid 30s and lows in the 20s. No arctic airmasses expected within the next week with the coldest air expected to stay to our north.
