General Weather Discussion for the Week Ahead

After experiencing a period of inclement weather this week, we can finally enjoy a sunny day Friday with much lighter wind speeds, compliments of high pressure building in. High pressure will dominate our weather through at least Sunday afternoon with a fair amount of sunshine and temperatures averaging a few degrees below normal. A weak weather system and frontal boundary approaching from the west will cause a few showers to our west by late morning Sunday with some of these showers approaching in a weakening phase by late Sunday afternoon and evening.

A more important storm system will develop on Monday across the Plains with a warm front moving toward the area late in the day. This warm front may cause a few showers to our west by Monday evening with a much better chance of rain on Tuesday as a low pressure system forms over the Midwest. Much of the rain will clear the region by Tuesday night or Wednesday morning due to a strong cold front sweeping through the region. This front will likely bring the coldest airmass of the fall season to our area over a three-day period from Oct. 26 through Oct. 28.

In fact, the airmass behind the front may be so cold that there may be a few snow flurries on the other side of the lake and to our north by Thursday and Friday, however, I expect the white stuff to stay away for a little while longer. The three-day cold snap will bring highs in the lower 40s and lows in the 20s and 30s with moderate temperatures around trick or treat time.

Your Weekly Weather Fact: In preparation for potential snow next week, did you know that the average amount of snow in November is 1.2 inches?
