SWANCC Hosts Composting Workshop, One-Day Recycling Event Saturday

Workshop participants will learn how to create a nutrient-rich addition to soil from yard waste and food scraps and document destruction, electronics recycling event also will be held.

The Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) is providing two recycling opportunities to area residents Saturday, July 14.

Composting Workshop at Glenview Transfer Station

The workshop will provide demonstrations and teach the science behind composting yard waste and food scraps, which transforms them into a nutrient-filled component for plants, flowers, gardens and lawns, according to the SWANCC website.

Diane Bolash, a Master Composter from the University of Illinois Extension and Arlington Heights resident, will lead the outdoor workshop at the Glenview Transfer Station, 1151 N. River Road, from 12:30 p.m.to 1:30 p.m. 

Registration is required to attend, and can be completed by emailing mary@swancc.org with the workshop date, contact number and community you live in.

Electronics Recycling/Document Destruction Event at Evanston H.S. 

SWANCC also will hold a one-day document destruction and electronics recycling event at Evanston High School, 1600 Dodge Avenue, from 9 a.m. until noon, also on Saturday, July 14.

  • Mobile Phones-Fax Machines
  • Printers-Scanners
  • Televisions-Video Game Consoles
  • MPE Players-PDA's

Accepted Documents

  • Personal Files
  • Tax Forms
  • Medical Records
  • Bank Statements

Staples and paperclips also will be accepted on documents, but binders will not be. Residents are limited to six boxes of banker-sized documents at each event, and identification will be checked. To determine if where you live is a SWANCC member community, click here.
