Resident Reactions to ComEd Outages

Some Glencoe and Northfield residents are enduring their second outage in less than a month.

The Village of Glencoe announced at 8 a.m. on Thursday that 33 ComEd customers are still without power in Glencoe.

99 percent of power outages are expected to be fixed by Friday evening.

Patch talked to Ross Baumgarten about his frustration with the pace of ComEd's work to restore power to his Glencoe home, which has gone out for three days two separate times in less than a month.

Baumgarten, 56, is a lifelong Glencoe resident. He is a financial adviser at Robert Baird downtown and a former White Sox pitcher.

"That makes sense to a certain extent [Com Ed taking care of power to public institutions and larger neighborhoods first]. But the space shuttle made it all the way to the space station far quicker than they can turn our power back on. What does that say? This happens far too often. It's not like the power is out for a couple of hours. People in Missouri and Alabama had those tornadoes. It's going to end at some point.  I'm safe and my house is safe. But the fact they can't figure this out is a little aggravating. It's evident they're doing this catch-as-catch-can. They have not spent a dime on prevention, seeing a five-minute storm can knock out your power for four days."
