PHOTOS: Santa Visits Winnetka

Families lined up at the gazebo in Hubbard Woods Park Saturday afternoon to visit with Santa Claus. The event was one of several holiday activities around Winnetka this weekend to promote holiday shopping

To the delight of Winnetka's young ones, Santa Claus flew into town Saturday and stopped by Hubbard Woods Park to collect lists of gifts and find out who had been naughty and nice. Saturday and Sunday Winnetka celebrated "Shop Winnetka," a two-day event celebrating the holiday season and encouraging residents to do some of their shopping locally.

In addition to the visit by Santa Saturday afternoon, Friday night the village held its tree lighting, Saturday morning Coldwell Bank hosted Mrs. Claus and carriage rides, and Sunday many stores held special holiday sales.

The various holiday events were put on with the help of the Winnetka Park District, Chamber of Commerce, Coldwell Banker, Panera Bread, and the Grand Foods. Santa was played by Dan McMillan, CFO at an Acura Dealership in Orland Park, who does the gig several times throughout the season. He was sure to tell the kids to leave out cookies and milk, and carrots for the reindeer.
