WATCH: Kittens Play at Glencoe Public Safety

Six 4-week-old kittens are safe and sound in the Glencoe Public Safety building, after wildlife rehabilitators rescued their pregnant mother in March.

Six tabby kittens were born in the Glencoe Public Safety building on April 12 after wildlife rehabilitators picked up their pregnant mother in March. The rehabilitators responded to a Glencoe residence to catch a skunk and ended up with a gray cat instead.

The mother cat, who is still very hostile to humans, was brought in and scanned for a microchip. Public safety officers let her stay in the kennel, where she gave birth to six kittens on April 12.

The kittens are well taken care of, and are even being socialized so that they get used to being around people and children.

"We have a group of girls that do service projects around town," Katie Sweeney, Glencoe Animal Control Officer, said. "They'll come in, help out and play with them...they'll come until the last one is adopted."

When the kittens turn eight weeks old, they'll be taken to the Glencoe Animal Veternarian and given check-ups and necessary shots.
