'Home Alone' House For Sale

The property, made famous by the original movie and its sequel, is listed for $2.4 million.

The "Home Alone" house, one of Winnetka's most famous addresses, is now for sale.

The home, listed at $2.4 million, is in the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue. Owners John and Cynthia Abendshien lived there while the movie was filmed except for a few nights (it was released in 1990).

"One of those nights occurred when real snow finally fell in our area. The film crew stayed well into the night, wanting to make sure they got it on film," the Abendshiens said in a release.

The Abendshiens got to know the crew and the cast, including the movie's stars. Their daughter, Lauren, was a few years younger than Macaulay Culkin, whose career was jumpstarted by his starring role in "Home Alone."

"We got to know him, and eventually called him by his nickname, 'Mac,'" the Abendshiens said. "He was a nice but quiet young boy. Watching him perform brought smiles to our faces. It was amazing to see this quiet little boy quickly turn into Kevin, who was quite outspoken and animated."

In Winnetka, the house has become a tourist attraction, especially around the winter holidays. YouTube videos show fans making pilgrimages to the address to reenact scenes or just look at the house itself, a red brick, Georgian-style house with 14 rooms. The home was built in the 1920s and has built-in bookcases, a gourmet kitchen, a sunroom, and of course, a staircase (sled not included).

“Very few homes have a leading role in a movie, in a sense becoming an additional
character,” said Marissa Hopkins, the listing agent with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage’s Highland Park office.

The residence is one of several locations in the area where the movie was filmed, including Wilmette's .

The home will be shown to qualified buyers only.
