For 20th Issue, Winnetka Ornament Features Winnetka Children's Fair

Phototronics, 740 Elm St., produces the 2012 Winnetka ornament.

Looking for an easy holiday gift? Consider the annual Winnetka ornament, which features a different Winnetka building each year.

This year the Winnetka Children's Fair is being honored as Winnetka's Holiday ornament with ornament sales benefiting the Winnetka Holiday Lighting Fund.

The Childrenʼs Fair is in its 66th year of providing a festival on Winnetka's Village Green with rides, games and food celebrating children.

"Our first ornament was the 'Home Alone' house on Lincoln, as the movie had just come out two years before in 1990," said Betty Skalski, Winnetka resident and ornament producer. "It is still the most coveted of all the issues because once an ornament is made, when it's gone it's gone."

A limited number of last yearʼs ornament of Saints Faith Hope and Charity Church will also be offered.

Skalski sells the handmade ornaments at Phototronics, 740 Elm St., and said this is the 20th installment of ornaments. Each one costs $42, of which $25 dollars is tax-deductible. Part of the sale is donated to the Winnetka Village Holiday Lighting Fund.
