Crate & Barrel's Co-Founders Sell Winnetka Mansion

Gordon and Carole Segal flipped a 10,000-square-foot Georgian Estate for $5.3M. They live next door.

Crate & Barrel's co-founders, Gordon and Carole Segal, recently sold a 10,000-square-foot Winnetka mansion for $5.3M, $850K more than what they paid for it in 2008Curbed Chicago reports.

The couple actually lives next door to the house they sold, but purchased their neighbor's building to restore and resell it about five years ago, according to Curbed.

The Segals put a lot of work into the home, literally flipping the house by "exchanging the front for the back to create a sense of arrival at a lovely walled courtyard," according to Chicago Magazine.

However, the sale may not have been in the Segal's favor, if the $850K profit didn't cover the cost of remodeling expenses, which the family hasn't revealed the value of, Chicago Magazine reports.
