Members of the Winnetka Warriors Hockey Club recently assisted Glencoe Community Service Officer Katie Sweeney with soliciting food donations outside The Grand Food Center, Glencoe, for the village’s annual food and toy drive. In two, short hours, the girls convinced shoppers to donate enough groceries to fill 50-60 bags. (L-R): Elise Kahler, Jenna Coe, Brooke Portland, Sophie Kahler and Maddie Arend. Food recipients include seniors, shut-ins and special needs children from area child agencies, senior centers, churches and temples. Sweeney also gets input from social workers throughout New Trier Township, Northfield Township, and Glencoe Family Services. Last year, she says, the village-wide effort served 74 area families.
