Winnetka and Glencoe Residents Attend The Salvation Army's Annual Starlighter Luncheon

Leaders from Chicago’s business and philanthropic communities came together to kick-off the holiday season at The Salvation Army’s annual Starlighter Luncheon, a beloved annual tradition, that also launches the annual Red Kettle campaign, which generates nearly 70 percent of the funds used year round to provide programs and services to people in need.  This event recognizes The Salvation Army’s friends and donors for their continued support. 

The 2013 Red Kettle Campaign goal is to raise $13 million.  The Salvation Army receives nearly 70 percent of its yearly donations during the Red Kettle Campaign, which continues through Jan. 31, 2014.  The funds are used not only to support Christmas programs and services, but to help The Salvation Army serve those in need throughout the entire year.

Last year during the holiday season, The Salvation Army served more than 106,000 people, distributing more than 30,000 food baskets, 41,000 articles of clothing and more than 115,000 toys.

The Salvation Army is the largest social service organization in the world and the single largest direct provider of social services in Chicago and the state of Illinois.  The Army operates 200 points of entry in neighborhoods across the greater Chicago area, providing disaster relief, shelter, meals, rehabilitation programs, child care and head start, senior services and more.  On any given night, about 900 people are sleeping under a Salvation Army roof.   In 2010, The Army celebrated 125 years of service in Chicago.  The Salvation Army is there every day, 24-hours-a-day in Chicago and throughout the country providing disaster relief to people in crisis. The 2013 Red Kettle Campaign goal is to raise $13 million.  The Salvation Army receives nearly 70 percent of its yearly donations during the Red Kettle Campaign, which continues through Jan. 31, 2014.  The funds are used not only to support Christmas programs and services, but to help The Salvation Army serve those in need throughout the entire year.
