North Suburban YMCA to Host Journey of Hope Bike Team

The North Suburban Y will welcome Push America’s “Journey of Hope” bike team for a special visit on July 23, beginning at 4:30pm. The visit is a stopover in an annual 4,000 mile cross-country ride that raises awareness and funds for children with special needs. The event at the YMCA will be an afternoon filled with fun and food, with activities including music, dancing, tattoos, facepainting, a BBQ and a Buddy Baseball game organized by the NSSRA. The Y is located at 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook.

Journey of Hope is a fundraising program of Push America, the charitable arm of the Phi Kappa Pi fraternal organization. Since 1988, Journey of Hope has sponsored bike teams who ride an average of 75 miles per day. In 2013, teams that started their rides in Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles will traverse the nation before meeting for a final rally in Washington, D.C. In the process, they expect to raise over $500,000 and also enhance community awareness and support for individuals with disabilities.

The July 23 event at the YMCA is free to all families of children with special needs. Pre-registration is requested no later than July 13. To register send your name, and the number of adults and children attending to Bigblast001@yahoo.com, no later than July 13th. For more information, call (847) 650-8161.
