New Trier Township Angel Fund Seeking Donations

The New Trier Township Angel Fund is currently in need of donors. The Angel Fund, a registered 501(C)3 organization supported solely by donations from private citizens, various faith groups and a number of civic organizations, provides emergency monetary support for residents to pay for food, shelter, medical care and other necessities. The Fund is currently lower than usual at this point in the fiscal year. Need has been consistent and additional applications are anticipated, so the Township wants residents to know that now would be a helpful time for those who are inclined to make donations.

The types of situations for which the Angel Fund has recently provided support include a single working parent whose employer cut hours resulting in a sudden, unexpected reduction in income. In another situation, a job was abruptly terminated following a recent promotion. Again, this resulted in a sudden loss of income. In another situation, an unemployed individual was able to secure employment after a period of time, however all personal resources had been depleted and the resident had fallen behind on bills due to prolonged unemployment. In some cases, a family is facing threat of eviction. In other cases, an individual has already borrowed from family and/or friends to make ends meet. Some Angel Fund cases involve seniors with significant medical needs. In every case, the Township is working with people who are motivated to take control of their lives and willing to work hard to recover from a financial challenge. Angel Fund applicants do not meet the criteria for Emergency or General Assistance but must go through the same qualification process to determine eligibility.

There are no administrative costs of running the Angel Fund. Therefore, one hundred percent of donations are used to assist those in need. The Angel Fund provides partial support to other Township programs including the Food Pantry, Bridge the Gap and School Supplies.
