Area Grocer, Am Yisrael Congregation Team to Provide Soup Packets to Northfield Pantry

Everyone knows that a good, hearty soup can leave you feeling nourished and full for much of the day. That’s why Am Yisrael Congregation and The Grand Food Center are teaming up to provide soup packets to clients of the Northfield Food Pantry. This is the fourth year that the Northfield-based synagogue has assembled soup mixes for those in need. The Grand Food Center is providing six types of beans for the soup packets, along with numerous types of spices/seasonings to fill 150 soup packets.  Using plastic bags provided by the grocer, Am Yisrael Congregation volunteers will assemble the packets on Sunday, March 23. Volunteers will then deliver the completed soup packets to the Northfield Food Pantry the following Tuesday. “Last year, these soup packets were snapped up very quickly,” says Am Yisrael volunteer Lynn Denenberg. “We envision the same to happen this year, too.” According to pantry officials, some 750 area families currently utilize the pantry for dry goods and other items. The Northfield Food Pantry is located at 3801 West Lake Ave. (first floor), Glenview.
