10th Annual Lester J. Anixter Memorial Golf Outing Raises more than $150,000 to Support the Mission of Anixter Center

Nearly 100 Anixter Center supporters took to the links to celebrate the organization’s 10th annual Lester J. Anixter Memorial Golf Outing on Monday, August 5Hosted at a private country club in Highland Park, the event served as an opportunity to honor the late Lester J. Anixter by playing the game he loved while raising funds and awareness for Anixter Center, one of Illinois’s largest nonprofit organizations serving people with disabilities and related challenges.

Guests of the golf outing enjoyed an energetic18-hole scramble where they competed for several prizes, including the highly coveted hole-in-one award of a Volvo All-wheel Drive S60, which was graciously donated by Howard Orloff Imports.   For the first time ever, the day included a tennis tournament, featuring open play and a spirited match.  Throughout the day, guests had the opportunity to meet and greet with former Chicago Bears quarterback Bobby Douglass.

Anixter Center supporters ended the day with a cocktail hour and delicious dinner at the clubhouse, where they had an opportunity to bid on incredible silent auction items, including Chicago sports memorabilia, gift certificates to incredible restaurants and boutiques, 20 pounds of chocolate from Blommers and much more. During dinner, event chairman Peter Silberman and Anixter Center Associate Council (ACAC) Chairman Marc Fung led a live auction filled with luxurious vacation packages, golf excursions and more.

Anixter Center provides an array of services to help people with disabilities and related challenges live, learn, work and play in the community. Through 34 programs and services at 28 primary locations across the greater Chicago area, Anixter Center touches the lives of thousands annually and advocates for the rights of children and adults with all types of disabilities to participate fully and equally in society.

Anixter Center was founded in 1919 as an orphanage to care for children who lost their parents to Chicago's great influenza epidemic. As the agency acquired new programs and sites and changed names throughout the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s, its focus broadened to meet the needs of all people with disabilities.

Having merged with three independent agencies (CALOR, Chicago Hearing Society and the National Lekotek Center) since 1997, Anixter Center is now one of the largest nonprofit organizations serving people with disabilities in the greater Chicago area
