Can someone tell me why there has to be anything Jewish about this holiday? This is for an asasinated African American civil rights leader. He worked for equal rights for African Americans. Why can't it just br about him? no usurping, no intruslons ... just about him.

Martin Luther King, Jr.'s values and Jewish values coincide, and it's wonderful when children understand how the values of justice and peace that King held so dearly are values that their heritage also holds dearly. King's legacy is not "just about him" - it's about his values and the changes in this country he was able to make!

His values also coincide with people who are Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist (He was Baptist), Muslim, Buddhist, Episcopal, Polish, Icelandic, Tom's Shoes and Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream companies. No lectures from them. By the way, if we didn't have people to protect our country... he wouldn't have had a country to help change for the better. So, I guess, have a part of that lecture be about how other people who cherish their country too. The people who raise their hands and say, I'll do what ever my country needs so it can be safe, grow and prosper. Include how a Soldier, a Vet have those same ideals too. If, after trying to usurp his holiday, you have time. By the way, did you "raise your hand"? Have you ever been in a protest? And, I mean a real one like the ones he had to endure - not some candle light vigil.
