Reflections On The Olympics

It's thrilling to watch the Olympics, isn't it?

Everyone is so focused on his or her goal.  Families, friends and colleagues are rooting on the sidelines.  This is THE moment that so many athletes have been waiting for...

The excitement builds as we wait for each event. You can hear cheering, and watch the concentration on the faces of the contestants.  It's like poetry in motion -- the swimming, diving, kayaking, and more.  It's breathtaking to watch what can be done in seconds.  Of course, it has taken years of persistance and diligent practice to even have the opportunity to compete.

My husband, Joel, made an interesting comment about the Olympic games.  He felt it ultimately doesn't matter which country each athlete is from.  We're really applauding each person -- for their determination, perseverance and courage. The athlete's country is not the most important detail.  What's more important is recognizing that each person has persevered to reach their highest potential. We're paying tribute to the human spirit... and feel connected by our humanity on earth.

Naturally, we're proud of those from our own country. But we're also delighted to see anyone master their inner resources -- to go for the gold.  For those of us on the sidelines, we too can go for the gold in our way... It just takes the courage to believe in ourselves.
