Did you know the white styrofoam that comes with most electronics and toys is not generally recyclable? Many people think it can be recycled residentially in Winnetka, but that is not true.
But now, courtesy of the Winnetka Environmental & Forestry Committee and Go Green Winnetka-Northfield, and just in time for all that holiday packaging, you can now recycle those bulky white blocks of Styrofoam. Simply drop them off at the Winnetka Public Works Yards 1390 Willow Road Monday thru Friday 7am to 5pm from December 26, 2012 through January 11, 2013, excluding Tuesday, January 1.
Please note:
This is for the white block Styrofoam only.
Packing “peanuts" cannot be accepted as part of this collection, but they may be recycled at UPS stores including the one located on Green Bay Road in Hubbard Woods.
Any styrofoam designed for use with food or drink, whether rinsed or not, will not be accepted. This styrofoam must be thrown out or it will contaminate other styrofoam that could be recycled.
This collection is not limited to Winnetka or Northfield residents. All are welcome to drop off their styrofoam through this program. Go Green Wilmette offers a similar program in Wilmette.
