Winnetka Landmark Ordinance Could be in Jeopardy

With the seating of three new trustees in the spring, cases where residents attempt to get landmark status for their homes are becoming more difficult to gain approval for, the 'TribLocal' reports.

It should be tough to get this designation. Any time officials approve the freeze on someone's property tax bill means they are approving the increase in everyone else's tax bill to pick up the slack.

Being designated by a qualified municipality or agency as an historic landmark is only one step in the process of approval for the property tax freeze and is no guarantee that it will be awarded. There is a relatively complicated process and series of approvals which must be followed to actually qualify for the freeze. http://www.illinoishistory.gov/ps/taxfreeze.htm
