Winnetka Council Approves $13.9 Million Tax Levy

Homeowners could expect to pay $45 more on a $20,000 property tax bill.

Winnetka Village Council unanimously approved a $13.9 million tax levy for 2012 at the Dec. 3 meeting.

“Staff projects that the village will be able to have a balanced budget at a 1.7 percent property tax levy increase for existing properties,” according to village document.

For Winnetka residents with a $20,000 tax bill, the village portion will increase by $45.

The village is only one of many governmental taxing agencies and represents about 13 percent of a Winnetka homeowner’s property tax bill.

Today on a $20,000 total property tax bill, residents pay the village $2,672. With the 1.7 percent increase, residents will pay $2,717 to the village, according to village documents.

The village approved levying a total of $13, 875, 587, which reflected a lower property tax levy increase than the previously recommended 3 percent.
