Welcome Home: Navy Seaman Returns to Winnetka

Navy Seaman Tommy Molitor returns after being aboard the USS Bainbridge for seven months.

Clutching an American flag and anxiously checking her cell phone, 18-year-old Mary Molitor waited at Erickson Woods on Friday with friends and family for her brother Navy Seaman Tommy Molitor, who returned after seven months aboard the USS Bainbridge.

"It's going to be really exciting to see him," she said, as she scanned Willow Road again in search of her parents car.

In addition to anxious relatives, the Illinois Patriot Guard and members of the Winnetka Police Department held American flags and met 21-year-old Seaman Molitor at Erickson. Upon arrival, Molitor was greeted with hugs and kisses and was presented with a challenge coin by Senior Ridge Captain Rob Curcio.

Following the short ceremony, Molitor was escorted to his Winnetka home where he was greeted by more friends and family.

"It's always nice when one of your children comes come," said Molitor's mother Sherry. "But this time I feel like I'm having an out of body experience."

The family held a barbecue and a large banner with Molitor's picture hung from tree to tree in front of their home. The had an American flag displayed off the tip of the Winnetka Fire Department ladder truck.

"I'm just beside myself," said Molitor's father Tom. "It's just a fabulous experience. I'm glad to gave him back in our arms."
