The Winnetka Club sold its building at 485 Maple St. on Monday for $870,000, a drop of $20,000 from its asking price, according to Winnetka Talk.
In the past year, the club pursued organizations, such as the Winnetka Park District, to consider buying or leasing the building.
“Every member feels strongly that, despite the painful decision to give up the clubhouse, The Winnetka Club will be able to donate more to the community than has been possible in the last few years,” said a December 2011 statement from the board of the club.
The Winnetka Park District noted that the maintenance costs made a purchase or rental difficult. "We had to consider the operational costs of running the programs in that building," Terry Schwartz, executive director at Winnetka Park District, said in December.
The Winnetka Club's website lists scheduled program of events, including their annual housewalk in May, without any note of change in plans.
