Dr. Daniel P. Ryan formerly taught at Hubbard Woods School and he will become the school's principal starting July 1.
Daniel P. Ryan is District 36's pick for the new principal of Hubbard Woods School.
The district announced their choice Tuesday night in an email to parents. More than 100 applications were received for the opening, and Ryan was selected by a panel of teachers, parents and staff. Ryan will start with the district July 1.
“I am very pleased to announce that Daniel will be joining us as the next principal of Hubbard Woods School," said Dr. Thomas Hagerman, who will become superintendent of District 36 on July 1. "He impressed everyone on the interview team with his commitment to progressive education, collaborative attitude, and passion for working with students. He understands the school and broader community and is fully committed to the work that we do here every day with children and their families.”
Ryan taught at Hubbard Woods School from 1989-1993 and he is currently the executive director and founder of The Children's School in Berwyn, a private elementary school. He is also associated with a principal mentorship program with Chicago Public Schools. He has also worked as the assistant dean at National-Louis University College of Education in Chicago
and was a public school principal in Hinsdale.
"I look forward to becoming a member of the Winnetka community of learners supporting student success in my new role as principal of Hubbard Woods School," Ryan said. "At the heart of all education is a strong community composed of parents, teachers, administrators and children. In Winnetka, all are committed to life-long learning and the development of the social, emotional and academic life of the child. It is when the community supports thoughtful, developmentally appropriate learning that children thrive."
Ryan earned his Doctorate of Education from Columbia University’s Teacher’s
