QotD: The Best Wine Seller in Town
It's time to mull things over.
Making a fine wine takes time, but finding a good bottle shouldn’t. Here’s a look at the selection in stores near you.
Binny’s: With several stores around the Chicagoland area, Binny’s has by far the widest selection of wines at all price points. This is the best place to find old favorites, to browse for something new or to find a gift for someone else. Experts are at the ready to answer any and all of your vine-related questions.
Good Grapes: Don’t be deterred by their small storefront in Glencoe. Good Grapes is exactly that: good grapes. They have a small collection of well-curated wines and bubblies and know their stuff. Not exactly the place to find your everyday sort of wine, but an excellent place for gifts or something special.
Dominick’s: Maybe it’s not the first store to come to mind when looking for a good bottle, but the Northfield store has upped their alcohol ante. Organized by region in shelves that set a wine cellar ambiance rather than a supermarket feeling, the selection is extensive. You can find bottles priced from $2 up to $150 in their tasting and cellar room. You won’t find many half bottles here, but you can find just about everything else.
The Grand: The selection at the Winnetka store is adequate, with a surprisingly good variety at price points from $40 and below. There’s a chilled case for whites and the champagne stand-bys. Overall, you’re not going to find anything new or exciting, but plenty of good wine for a nice dinner at home. The Glencoe store has even more limited space, but still options at many price points.
