Obituary: Richard T. “Rick” Sanders
The Winnetka business owner of Vose-Sanders Bootery and former Winnetka Chamber of Commerce treasure and secretary passed away at 63 years old.
Richard T. "Rick" Sanders, 63, of Northbrook, passed away on October 21.
Sanders was the proud owner of the 90-year-old Vose-Sanders Bootery, 837 Elm St. He put thousands of shoes on Winnetka's feet and will be long remembered for his exceptional customer and community service. He served on the Winnetka Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for six years, including terms as treasurer and secretary.
“The Village of Winnetka Business Community will greatly miss Rick,” Terry Dason, executive director of Winnetka-Northfield Chamber of Commerce wrote in an email to chamber members. “He was a well respected business man and leader for our business community.”
Sanders was the loving husband of Carol McHugh Sanders; dear son of Ted and Wanda Sanders; beloved brother of Walter (Sharon), the late Teddy James, Carolynne, and Michael (Martha); beloved uncle of Will, Emma, Tess, Harry, Teddy, Livia, and Maia; beloved nephew of Wally Dowd, the late Stanley and the late Helen Wozniak, the late Walter Jr. and Rosemarie Wozniak and their families; beloved son-in-law of Dolores and the late Patrick McHugh; dear brother-in-law of Patty and Michael Christensen; Michael and Joan McHugh and Michael's son Mathew, William, and Mary McHugh and their children Kelly, Sean, and Billy; and grateful recipient of a kidney donated by Libby Joyce.
Sanders proudly graduated from Loyola Academy in 1967 and Bradley University in 1972. He was an avid reader, crossword puzzler, traveler and Loyola Academy sports team supporter. He had a kind and gentle spirit and will be greatly missed.
Visitation Thursday, October 25, 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd., at Old Orchard Rd., Skokie.
Funeral Mass Friday, October 26, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 1775 Grove Street, Glenview.
