Nine Years Later, Winnetka Intersection to Get Revamped
The intersection of Winnetka Ave. and Green Bay Rd. will be getting a traffic light after nine years of requesting one.
The intersection of Winnetka Ave. and Green Bay Rd. in Winnetka will finally get a traffic light — nine years after the Village Board put the project out to bid, according to the Chicago Tribune. Because Green Bay Rd. is controlled by the Illinois Department of Transportation, the state needed to approve the project — a process the took longer than expected as the project grew from simply a new traffic light to a more comprehensive traffic project.
Construction on Winnetka Ave. and Green Bay is scheduled to begin in late March. The board approved the $650,000 bid of Hometowne Electric, Inc., which is based in Lake Villa, according to the Chicago Tribune article. The preparation for the project included 11 design variances throughout these past 9 years to comply with the state requirements.
