MAP: Top Spots to Get a Speeding Ticket in Winnetka
Patch pulled the police records and found where Winnetka police make the most traffic stops.

In the past three weeks, Winnetka police have made more than 140 traffic stops in the village, and certain locations are pretty popular on the list.
All the major roads in Winnetka seem to top the list, with specific intersections sticking out like a sore thumb. The intersection at Green Bay and Tower roads is the most popular on the list, with roughly 20 cars being stopped in the last few weeks. In addition, the section of Green Bay Road between Elm and Pine streets saw 10 cars stopped for a traffic incident.
On the map, the red triangles with the explanation points are the intersections with the highest number of incidents. The purple dots mean three traffic stops, the green dots mean two traffic stops and the orange dots mean only one traffic stop happened at that location.
The top five specific intersections listed are:
- Willow Road and Glendale Avenue
- Green Bay Road and Merrill Street
- Green Bay Road and Ash Street
- Pine Street and Green Bay Road
- Winnetka Avenue and Green Bay Road

I speak from experience as I received a ticket for speeding last year. I deserved it and the officer who stopped me was very professional. It was actually a pleasant experience. Nobody enjoys getting a ticket but it's a necessary evil of the society we live it. I admit I drive a little slower these days and do a better job of watching my speed.

Speeding is an issue in Winnetka, but I think a bigger issue is that people in Winnetka feel entitled to not STOP at stop signs. Please watch for the kids that are riding bikes and walking to school and STOP when you see a STOP sign even if you think it won't matter to anyone....you never know.

I don't regularly, like how Patch does police reports, but I thought this was a cool look at where residents should keep an extra eye on the road. I probably won't map traffic tickets like this for a while again.
However, I'm thinking of doing a similar map of the recent thefts, like you suggested. However, I'd also incorporate all the locations where bikes are being solen because that's also a huge issue. It's on my planner for this week, so keep your eyes peeled! :)

If you're speeding and you get caught - that's your problem. There are posted speed limits for a reason. Martin has the right attitude - he knew he was in the wrong and dealt with it. I don't think speed traps or "popular ticketing areas" should be publicized. If you're not doing anything wrong (whether it be speeding or anything else) the police aren't going to be coming after you.
