Saints Faith Hope & Charity Pastor, Martin O’Donovan, and the FHC School Board announced Sept. 10 that Katie Carden has become the new Principal of the Winnetka grade school.
After an exhaustive search conducted by a committee of parents, faculty and parishioners assembled by Father O’Donovan, Carden emerged as the strongest candidate and the best fit for the school community. She comes to Faith Hope with a broad range of experiences – as a teacher, a business owner in the education sector, author of curriculum material, and as a mother. This will be her first appointment as Principal of a grammar school.
“We are thrilled that Katie accepted our offer to join the dynamic Faith Hope & Charity community and feel confident that she will nurture our school, one of the parish’s key ministries, and do everything possible to maintain its standards of excellence," said Father O’Donovan. "We share her desire to establish a solid curricular foundation, an atmosphere grounded in the Catholic tradition, and a curiosity for new areas of exploration in science and technology, while at the same time graduating compassionate, kind, bright, service-minded students. This has been our legacy and this is our future.”
Carden comes to Faith Hope with a varied and valuable set of experiences in education including a start in her educational career in the Wilmette Public Schools, publishing multiple curricula through Scholastic Inc., developing the Resource Lab at Immaculate Conception School and establishing her own company as a private tutor to children throughout the Chicago and the North Shore from grades K-8. Carden has a deep personal faith and a singular love and respect for all children at all learning levels.
School Board President, Kathryn Talty, echoed Father Marty’s comments saying, “The Principal Search Committee went through an extensive process of seeking out and interviewing candidates for the role. Katie Carden was unanimously the number one choice of the committee. We are blessed to have her lead our school into this next, exciting chapter.”
Katie Carden of her new appointment said, “I am thrilled to be part of a community so deeply rooted in family and faith. The School of Saints Faith, Hope & Charity has a long standing tradition of academic excellence. I look forward to building on its past success by evaluating and adjusting the curriculum to support 21st century learners. It will be an exciting year at Faith Hope, as we implement newly acquired technology purchased through the generous fundraising efforts of parents and parishioners. I look forward to helping parents and teachers form children who are filled with faith and inspired to make a tremendous impact on the world around them.”
Founded in 1939, the School of Saints Faith, Hope & Charity is a parochial, Catholic grade school in the Archdiocese of Chicago, educating children in the formative years of Junior Kindergarten through eighth grade. At Faith, Hope and Charity students learn a way of life – one that weaves Catholic spiritual and moral development within academic studies and co-curricular achievement. The school mission is to provide an educational environment which develops the spiritual, academic, moral, and social growth of each student. FHC provides an atmosphere which encourages self-discipline, respect for the talents of others, recognition of students as individuals, and exposure to sound Christian values.
