Great Pumpkinfest 2012

  • Why Go?: Winnetka Public School Nursery will hold its 18th annual Great Pumpkinfest on Saturday, October 20, at the Winnetka Village Green, located at the corner of Maple and Elm Streets. This fun- filled family event will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and will feature entertainment, rides, food, crafts, games, an old fashioned cake walk and much more! The Great Pumpkinfest has become a beloved North Shore tradition with unique activities for the young and young at heart.

Documentary Film Screening: "Refuge: Stories of the Selfhelp Home"

  • When: Sunday, October 21, 2012, 3:00 pm
  • Where: Glencoe Public Library320 Park Ave, Glencoe
  • Why Go?: Refuge: Stories of the Selfhelp Home is a documentary about the last generation of Holocaust survivors in Chicago. Through historical narrative, archival footage, and personal testimony, the film explores the lives of six Chicagoans against the context of the Nazi cataclysm and tells the story of a community that has given refuge to more than 1,000 central European Jewish refugees and survivors. It premiered in June at the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Skokie. Glencoe resident and Refuge editor Ruth Epstein will introduce the hour-long film and answer questions afterward.
