A cyclist collided with a car at the intersection of Willow and Hibbard Roads on Friday morning, police confirmed.

The cyclist was taken to the hospital. Winnetka police have not released any more information at this time. A reader told Patch that she witnessed the incident, and said the cyclist was a male, headed west on Willow Road, high-school age or older.

In late August Winnetka police issued a warning when school started about three parts of town with heavy car, foot and bike traffic. Willow Road was one of the highlighed spots.

1. Tower Road – Hubbard Woods and Sacred Heart Schools
2. Willow Road - Crow Island Elementary School
3. Winnetka Avenue / Green Bay Road - New Trier High School

The intersection is near Skokie Playfields and Crow Island Elementary School.

The context of pedestrian and bicyclist use of area roadways must be made a prominent feature during the planning and design or the retrofit of a roadway, especially within the urban environment where this accident occurred.
