Families Invited to YMCA Early Childhood Open House

With the school year just around the corner, preschoolers and their parents have a special opportunity to learn about the wide variety of programs available to them at the North Suburban YMCA with an Early Childhood Open House on Saturday, August 18 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. This special event allows children ages 2.5 to 6 to observe or participate in a variety of sample classes, including art, dance, gymnastics, sports, and swimming. At the same time, parents will be able to discuss class options with the Y’s professional staff and tour newly-renovated areas of the Northbrook community center.

“The Y is unique in the wide range of programs we have available for this age group all under one roof,” commented Joni Goldstein, NSYMCA Performing Arts Director. “Preschool children are full of curiosity, so it’s a perfect time in their lives to explore different activities and see what they enjoy. Our open house is a relaxed, fun setting for kids to try something new, while their parents can learn more about specific programs and see our beautiful facility.”

During the open house, multiple areas will be open for families to visit. Must-see destinations include the Y’s new fully-accessible playground, KidZone babysitting center, and Kindergarten Club classroom, which houses the Y’s morning and afternoon enrichment classes for kindergarteners. Children can observe aquatics classes in the pool area, create art projects, join in games in the gym, and try out their ballet moves in the dance studios.

The YMCA is located at 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook. To avoid Techny Road eastbound lane closures, visitors coming from Pfingsten Road are encouraged to turn east on Koepke Road, one light north of Techny, and then south on Birch Road. The Y entrance is just west of the intersection at Birch and Techny.

Registration for YMCA Fall Session I classes begins on August 11 for members, August 18 for non-members. Most classes begin the week of September 3. Program guides will be available at the Open House, or online at www.nsymca.org.
